USask students launch balloon into near-space for space training program
University of Saskatchewan students are part of an international team that has launched a balloon 30 kilometres into near-space as the culmination of a special training program that will help them become the next generation of space technology and engineering experts.
The launch took place on July 24 at the Cudworth Airport outside of Saskatoon.
The NSERC CREATE International Space Mission (ISM) Training Program prepares future experts in space technology through the participation in projects that will contribute to a Canadian-led launch by 2025.
The four University of Saskatchewan graduate students who participated in the program are in physics, engineering physics and atmospheric science. They will be available for interviews on Thursday 25, along with Kathryn McWilliams, ISM team lead and principal investigator for the SuperDARN Canada, and Laureline Sangalli, ISM instructor and expert on ground-based imaging of the aurora and the ionosphere at the Royal Military College.
